hi all!

this is the list everyone-shayna-knows, concept shamelessly borrowed from Faraz’s everyone_faraz_knows mailing list. 

you are probably on this list because I know you enough to wave hi to you in the infinite with some kind of recognition. whether it’s been a brief conversation or getting dinner basically every night, I’m grateful to have all of you in my life here at MIT :) at the present moment there’s roughly 250 people on this list, which is a little more than 5% of the undergrad population here O.O.

if there’s someone who isn’t here that should be here, please let me know! if you don’t want to be on this mailing list, that’s also fine, I’ll still remember you!

hi, I’m Shayna. 

full name: Amanda Shayna Ahteck, as Outlook likes to display 

kerb: asahteck. 

pronouns: they/them/theirs but I totally get it if you default to she/her/hers as I am biologically female and sometimes it’s easier to explain to conservative parents and whatnot. 

I’m an almost 18.5 year old class of 2023 freshman living in 706 West Tower McCormick Hall, often confused for a sophomore/junior/grad student or EC/Random/Simmons/Next resident. 

(Rush McCormick Hall! 7West 7Best! I’m also the floor rep and make sure that snacks and free food are frequent on 6/7 West. And yes, with the frying pan habits, living in a tower, and long hair, Rapunzel comparisons are evident)

I’m a prospective course 2A-something with EECS and other things, interested in building small electronics and whatever I find cool at the time. I’m planning to minor in STS and have a minor obsession with MIT history. I’m mixed Sino-Mauritian, with both of my parents from the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean

You might know me as a lightsaber duelist and teacher, a Tony Stark wannabe building armor and a shrine shelf, stress baker/chef, logistics gal in a tech world, a maker of shitty robots and some occasionally useful things, having really long hair, aggressively caring about or shoving free food at people, pubbing ATS/LSC/DPhiE/any other organization I’m in, or maybe that person having a small crisis.

An idea of some content here:

- Once per semester life updates to avoid spam, hopefully more positive than my daily despair 

- Mild spam from promoting whatever thing I or a friend just built (like <a href="https://hewwo.me/">hewwo.me</a> built by my friend Kat Huang from some chaotic ideation energy with me and Jess Ding)

- Invites for parties I am planning to host in the McCormick West Penthouse/my room 706

- Overflow from free food roulette (if you don’t know what that is, maybe you should get to know me better ;))

- Invites for early screenings of movies and related LSC things I can invite people to
